“Recruitment Signals” from Apoptotic Cells Invitation to a Quiet Meal
نویسنده
چکیده
An evolutionarily conserved machinery exists for engulfment of apoptotic cells from worm to mammals. New observations suggest that corpse clearance is tightly linked to apoptosis and that dying cells use both recruitment and eat-me signals for phagocyte attraction and recognition.

Phosphatidylserine receptor and apoptosis: consequences of a non-ingested meal
Apoptosis, a physiological process of controlled cell death, is essential during embryonic development and for the maintenance of tissue homeostasis. In recent years the view has emerged that dying cells can provide specific signals that enable recruitment and recognition by phagocytes. Exposure of phosphatidylserine, the best characterized of such signals, allows safe clearance of apoptotic wa...
متن کاملBeginnings of a good apoptotic meal: the find-me and eat-me signaling pathways.
Prompt and efficient clearance of apoptotic cells is necessary to prevent secondary necrosis of dying cells and to avoid immune responses to autoantigens. Recent studies have shed light on how apoptotic cells through soluble "find-me" signals advertise their presence to phagocytes at the earliest stages of cell death. Phagocytes sense the find-me signal gradient, and in turn the presence of dyi...
متن کاملCurrent Understanding of the Mechanisms for Clearance of Apoptotic Cells—A Fine Balance
Apoptosis is an important cell death mechanism by which multicellular organisms remove unwanted cells. It culminates in a rapid, controlled removal of cell corpses by neighboring or recruited viable cells. Whilst many of the molecular mechanisms that mediate corpse clearance are components of the innate immune system, clearance of apoptotic cells is an anti-inflammatory process. Control of cell...
متن کاملThe Calotropis Gigantea Methanolic Extract Induces Apoptosis in Human Breast Carcinoma Cells
Background: Calotropis gigantea (family: Asclepiadaceae) has been known to contain cardiac glycosides. The C. gigantea extracts have been reported as cytotoxic to a few cancer cell lines. The present study was designed to examine the effect of Calotropis gigantea methanolic extract (CGME) on the growth and apoptosis in human breast carcinoma cell line (MCF-7 cells). Methods: The study was ...
متن کاملProper integration time of polarization signals of internetwork regions using Sunrise/IMaX data
Distribution of magnetic fields in the quiet-Sun internetwork areas has been affected by weak polarization (in particular Stokes Q and U) signals. To improve the signal-to-noise ratio (SNR) of the weak polarization signals, several approaches, including temporal integrations, have been proposed in the literature. In this study, we aim to investigate a proper temporal-integration time with which...
